Ivy Cottage is a stunning, spacious stone cottage situated in the heart of the peaceful village of Earl Sterndale, five miles from Buxton, Derbyshire and amidst the wonderful countryside of upper Dovedale and the Staffordshire moorlands, with a wealth of walks and cycling routes from the doorstep. Earl Sterndale is often mentioned in magazines as a fantastic place to start walks around the peaks of Chrome and Parkhouse hills - the only real ‘peaks’ of the Peak District.
Ivy Cottage, originally separate cottages dating from the 18th century, has been in our family for over 50 years. We have refurbished the property with a mixture of family antiques and new modern facilities to create one large and wonderful holiday home, ideal for a small group of friends and families. Our aim has been to create an individual atmosphere, more like a home from home than you might find in many holiday properties. We have used our own extensive experience of staying in holiday cottages with our family to incorporate all the facilities guests might require, while trying to create a unique, interesting and, above all, comfortable stay.
The very generous living space in the cottage includes a sitting room with a multi-fuel stove, very comfortable seating and characterful furniture. The sunny conservatory overlooks the garden and is a huge asset in offering year round space to relax, read, enjoy the garden, watch the birds, eat and drink etc. There is a separate spacious dining room, excellently equipped kitchen and utility room.
The three delightful bedrooms, individually decorated, offer double room, twin room and single room spaces. There is a downstairs bathroom with shower over and an upstairs shower room. Free wifi, super fast broadband, fuel, bed linen and towels are all included.
There is parking on the quiet village street immediately outside the cottage, while one well-behaved dog is welcomed. We do not allow smoking inside or outside in the garden.
We take bookings from Saturday to Saturday. We may be able to accommodate shorter, last minute bookings (min 3 nights) during the quiet season (November - end of February) but they would still have to be within the constraints of the Saturday changeover. Subject to confirmation.

Earl Sterndale is a peaceful village in the Upper Dovedale Valley in the glorious Peak District National Park. A centre for walkers with the peaks of Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill and the Staffordshire moorlands, this is a fantastic, peaceful retreat.
Earl Sterndale is just 5 miles from the spa town of Buxton, where there is a good range of amenities and facilities. The famous Georgian crescent has recently restored and there is also the Buxton Festival in July. There are beautiful gardens and historic buildings such as the Buxton Playhouse with year round cultural events. Several Peak District market towns are within easy reach including Bakewell, Ashbourne and Leek. Chatsworth House is just beyond Bakewell within half an hour’s drive.
The Peak District offers a huge range of activities and attractions. It has many traces of the early industrial revolution such as the mills at Cromford in the Derwent Valley and there are cycle trails following the old railway tracks where you can hire bikes, nearest one at Parsley Hay. The pottery museums at Stoke are well worth a visit and also to the south Alton Towers is only half an hour away.
